  1. From the company that owns the trade mark Speed-Rail: https://www.hollaender.com/site/assets/files/4477/hollaender_pipe_size_chart_2017.pdf
  2. Shouldn't be necessary to drill and tap for a second clamping screw. Possibly two factors to account for the pipe slipping in the BigBen: speedrail is not "Speedrail" or 1-1/4 sch. 40 pipe and a little too small for the clamps optimal minimum diameter; poorly made product as Manfrotto has off-shored their product from a small town in Italy that employed all the local craftsman and skilled labor to a low-buck far east manufacturer. I own Manfrotto BigBens and they have never slipped, but mine were cast and finished in Italy.
  3. Is the speedrail turning in the BigBen? Or is the jaw pads in the Kupollini?
  4. The stepdown transformer in the charger may well be fine. Some of the electronic components following it are likely damaged.
  5. Lacking a safety cable, trick line or stove wire looped through the yoke or the bail of the fixture and then around the speedrail.
  6. That;s a weak-ass clamp you are using there. A cheeseboro or baby pipe clamp would have a more secure grip. If the Cardellini is slipping, is the friction material on the jaws missing or torn?
  7. Possibly, the fuse exists to prevent the device from drawing too much current. However when you double he voltage, you half the current, so it more likely you damaged some of the electronics with excess input voltage.
  8. Have a friend that works on autos or electronics? He'd likely have a VOM or DMM and could see if the charger has any output voltage.
  9. You can soften the light on the mic and arm using a dot and finger kit. Lacking one, you can improvise a finger with a 2x10" piece of diffusion on a rectangular frame of wire. Kit: https://www.adorama.com/mt219005.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiprvpLmQ2gIVSAOGCh2ErgPhEAQYBSABEgIVCPD_BwE
  10. Lighting on the microphone and arm for the piano is a little hot in the frontal view. Might want to soften that.
  11. Don't overly complicate this. You probably don't need each shot or sequence to match exactly, do you? Start and end points can be matched in the edit and as long as the dolly travels at the same speed you should be fine. A good dolly grip can probably do this, if you want to try some simple motorized techniques, see Ron Dexter's website.
  12. Rental gear goes missing every day, sometimes it gets mixed in the equipment being returned to another company. Most rental houses have a pile of gear with some other company's tag on it. Sometime they'll call the renter and let them know about the mistake and sometimes they'll try to get the gear headed back to the right owner.
  13. No, China silk is actual silk fabric woven from silk thread. It's not a slang term or a trade name owned by Matthews or any other company. http://www.advantagegrip.com/fabric%20specifications.htm
  14. I didn't think "real" silk, China silk was ever used anymore due to cost and its ease of being damaged. All the silks, I've ever owned or handled were artificial, Rayon or Viscose.
  15. I may be totally wrong with this reference. Didn't they use a magnesium flare in one of the scenes in the movie, The Punisher? Held by the main character.
  16. I know where there is a used 24 light Dino that might be bought for mere 3k. A new ARRI 1.8K HMI PAR runs about $9500 or so.
  17. Make certain you grow some Hipster chin scruff before the shoot. As an alternative to riding a long board to set, a Razor scooter would do.
  18. Why do you have a concern? Is it a PAR? Do you always use it with a lens? Is it a Fresnel? Doesn't operate without the lens door closed which blocks most of the UV, just like the PAR lenses. In either case, there is a minimum safe distance that should be maintained between HMI fixtures and talent. That is spelled out by the manufacturer.
  19. Schedule 40 PVC in any size is more flexible than the equivalent size in Aluminum and greatly more flexible than a smaller size of sched 40 pipe. Don't see how one could possibly substitute for the other without an inordinate amount of longitudinal support. Waiting for the pictures Greg.
  20. Please do. 2 or 3" PVC isn't cheap, I can't see someone (hobby filmmaker) shelling out the money for half a dozen 10' lengths. Might as well buy 1-1/4 Aluminum rigid conduit, cheaper and less jiggley than PVC. If you're really cheap, you'll scrounge it from a building demolition or buy it from a scrap yard.
  21. In the amateur world, sure. Then there's this stuff: http://www.porta-jib.com/flex-trak.htm
  22. A male-male Cam turnaround is necessary to create a feeder:Ring-of-Fire. Since you don't make or break energized cams or Bates connections, I don't see the extreme hazard. Hot legs can be any color in the USA except white or green.
  23. The image you posted doesn't include a 100A Bated to Edison fanout, a.k.a. a Five Peckered Billygoat. https://www.parlayeq.com/adapters/100a-bates-edison-fan-out
