  1. Question : Shooting anamorphic in super16 mm film, Is there a way to exploit the black space between two frames the same way it is done with the in 35 mm with 2 perf for 2:39 and gain time on you 400ft roll I am shooting with hawk vlite16 1.3 anamorphic , probably sr1 but i am wondering if there is a camera model that can allow to expoit more surface on the negative (and so, having more time per roll than the usual 10 min/400ft) by having the frames close to each other. I'm thinking why wouldn't that be possible, 16 mm anamorphic withmore than 10 min per 400 ft mag ? (the small size of the 16mm film ? the small size of the mechanic that pull the movie down ? so 1 perf is all there is for super 16 ? does anyone have a movie in mind that was shot anamoprhic 16mm film ?) I know high frame rate cameras exists, with precise mechanics that allows to have that maybe ... i am looking for a professional regular model though ... Cheers, J
  2. Hey everyone, I'm looking for old, expired 400' rolls of 16mm that I can use to practice loading. I'm planning to start shooting 16mm more seriously and don't want to have to worry about potentially wasting brand new film while I familiarize myself with the process. Thanks!
  3. Hello everyone, I am seeking for examples of filter use on 16 mm, anything from glimmer, black promist to effect filters (stars ...etc) will do. If movies also pop in mind don't hesitate ? I am in research for an upcoming 16 mm video (dance performance, with natural light) that we'll shot with the aaton xtr , 7219 film, zeiss 12 mm & zeiss zoom 12-120 (by mind). Caméra on dolly or stand, 'black swan' inspired of some sort . Thanks ! Jordan
  4. I recently got an Aaton LTR 7 serviced and have been practicing loading it and running film through it for a project. It has 2 mags. One of the mags is making a scratching sound and I am not sure what it is. The only difference between the mags is the rubber stoppers on the load in side seem to keep getting ground down everytime I run a roll through the camera on this problematic mag. Is there another reason that the sound could be happening and if not do you know why these are being grounded down? improper loading? The roll maybe has to be completely flat when loading? I'm really not sure and would appreciate any help. Thanks!
  5. Hey there, I work on 16mm and super 8 film and have a pretty sufficient editing setup in my home studio -- rewinds, splicers, etc. However, I really need to get my hands on a film trim bin (big standing bin on wheels with the muslin bag to catch tails, and rack of pins for organizing clips). I've searched google a million times and can't find any for sale, just posts by filmmakers talking about having one in their studio. I know they have to come from somewhere! I emailed Dwight Cody and he doesn't have any at the moment, though I'll keep checking back. I've been looking for about a year. I'd also love to hear if anybody has made one of their own, and how you did it - I'm just tired of pinning my strips to the wall and would love a more long-term solution (plus, I miss my old school's darkroom). Anybody have experience on this or a tutorial, or a resource to purchase/make one? Thanks so much! E

  7. Yesterday I shot my first ever roll in my new Eclair NPR. It was a 400' roll of 50d, a short skit with some friends. It was really fun shooting with it and the camera was great to use, I'll remember this first roll. What were your first experiences with the Eclair NPR? What did you shoot? How did it go?

  9. Hello, I'm intrigued by the Panavision Elaine 16mm camera which seemed like a good camera that never seems to get used anymore and is largely forgotten. It was introduced in 1987 but the only thing I know was shot with it was some of 'Malcolm In The Middle' back in the 90s. I'm assuming it was used primarily for TV. Has anyone here had any experience with it or used one recently? What are your thoughts on it, what was it like to use? Kind regards - Aren
  10. Hi everyone, I recently bought a very early Eclair NPR from France, serial no 199. The lens turret on it is a c-mount on both bottom and top mounts which is quite uncommon. Does anybody know where I could get a turret that has the Cameflex mount or know someone who might have one or a parts camera that I could have one off? Kind regards Aren
  11. Shot my first short film this last Summer. It took two and a half days and went really really well + the weather was excellent! Editing took a while as my experience is very limited, but learned a lot from it ? Hope you all enjoy it! (Shot with my Eclair ACL and on Eastman Kodak Double X 7222 film)
  12. Hello, I have two zeiss superspeeds MK3 ( s16 ) in fantastic condition. ( 12mm&16mm ) bought them 4719 EUR two years ago. . Willing to sell them for 4100 eur. or 2200/each if bought separately. pm for high resolution pics. Best
  13. I'm looking to purchase a Bolex 16mm non-reflex camera, that takes single perf film (serial numbers above 76471). I'm in Spain, if anyone in Europe has this type of Bolex available for sale. Thanks!!
  14. Complete Cinema Products CP-16R Camera Package. Reflex standard 16mm body with 1.33:1 ground glass and mattes. New belts, runs great! Angenieux 12-120 zoom lens with some filters 2 400ft Magazines 2 batteries (only one works) and 2 chargers This is a great sync-sound camera as a starter kit for someone who maybe can't afford an SR. The only thing it really needs is new batteries, as the stock ones are pretty bad. Everything else works great and with a lens, it's a hard to pass up deal at $1500.
  15. Hi. I have 2 Arriflex 16BL's (4 mags), and every single time I load film into one, regardless of which magazine I use, this happens. See video posted here.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmZgD-JbLFI&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=BrendanCollins Anyone have any idea? Motor seems to slow down with film as well, runs at normal speed when no mag is on the camera. Occasionally will run film just fine without this grinding noise. Both cameras do it. Never have had a problem before. I took the assembly out and I don't see any stripped or worn gears internally... SOS Thanks!
  16. Hi, I've worked mainly 7222 with self processing(D76/Dektol), now I wonder what type of film can be used for print stock. I've read from the list of motion film, Kodak 7202/7203 is used for BW print stock. But when I check from resellers 7202 is colour negative film. So I am bit confused now, is anyone could recommend suitable print stock for projection? What I want to try here exactly is, I want to make positive duplicate from my negative which is possible to project. I guess slower film(lower ISO) would fit for duplication and control the contrast, it seems really hard to find proper one in Europe. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  17. I've ordered a Bolex REX 3 and I am so excited! I've also gotten a Sekonic L398, so I've really got the cliche film student package, haha. Honestly, the simplicity/limitations of the tools is what I find inspiring and fun. A few things I'm still trying to grasp: - Shutter angle: When to adjust and how, for effect or utility - Aperture: How to compensate for the viewfinder? - In what situations is it practical to push or pull the film more than an aesthetic choice? - common pitfalls to avoid? - best places to buy film stock? - Is using a digital camera for reference an effective way to prevent light flicker? this is one i really want to avoid lol Thanks to anyone who answers, any info is really appreciated. I am new to the forums and this site is a wonderful resource
  18. Hey there. Question pertaining to an Arri SR2 and the Cinematography Electronics Precision Speed Control 2. I’ve got the Precision Speed Control 2 hooked up to my SR2 and set to 24fps. When I run the camera, there’s a bit of a clanking sound and it sputters around 10fps for about 5secs, then ramps up to 40fps for about 5secs, then ramps back down to around 10fps. All in all, pretty out of control. As I’ve messed with it, it has hit 24fps for a sec, then starts running wild. I ran the camera without the Speed Control and it ran smooth. Two questions. 1. Any troubleshooting ideas? 2. (probably a dumb question) can you run the camera without the Speed Control and be fine if the project will have no sound sync? I’ve only ever shot with a Speed Control so if I resorted to shooting without it, it’d be a new experience. Thanks!
  19. Hey there. Got a question regarding an SR2 and low frame rates. I own an SR2 with a speed control. I know at 24fps it's 180 degrees or about 1/50th of a second. If I change the fps on the speed control, to say 12fps, does the camera stay fixed at 1/50th or is it locked on 180 degrees and result in 1/24th a second? Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks!
  20. Just want to know for sure while I’m planning a project. Can I switch lens (in daylight) while in the middle of a 16mm 400’ roll? My camera, an Eclair ACL, doesn’t have a multi-turret design. Does the shutter protect the rest of the roll (as long as the camera isn’t running)?
  21. Hi Group, I've just joined. I recently bought an Arri S 16mm on ebay. The camera has come from Italy and used to belong to RAI in Rome (Italian Public Broadcasting), which may explain some of the quirks; I live in the UK by the way. My intention is to use it to make a short 16mm film later in the year. Before that though, I need to get it working and to run a test film through it. Hopefully you'll be able to help me. I have included photos of all the issues raised below. I've attached all relevant photos. The camera came with two battery packs that don't work - the elements need changing. My question is: What is the best and most cost-effective (not mutually exclusive, surely) way of getting it running now? Should I just replace the elements in the packs and use all the existing accessories as they are? Or is there a better way of doing it these days. (For instance, the batteries in the packs are soldered with the wires and I would need to take it to a professional to do this.) The Italian charger seems to work, the lights come on anyway, and I've bought a Uk adapter for its plug. The Italian/Uk thing maybe complicates things unnecessarily? The camera has an Arri 12 volt addition to its side (see pic). What should go into its socket? I don't have the cable for it anyway. It also has a fixed-rate motor attached, although it has also come with the variable motor. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated, I'm itching to run a roll of film through it. Thanks in advance. Iolo Edwards
  22. Hello everyone, I just hand-processed a roll of 16 mm in LOMO tank and the film is either all black or half-brownish, like on the picture. Visible frames are like underneath this brown strip. Is it possible that the tank leaks the light in? Wouldn't the film be clear in that case? Film is reversal FOMAPAN R, developed in FOMA kit. I am fairly new at this and probably asking something obvious? Thank you for any advice, Ivana
