  1. That Elaine is a very nice looking unit.
  2. i feel like the BMPCC does pretty well and wouldn't require too large scale a drone
  3. Oh wow ... i've fallen down the youtube k-hole of movie miniatures videos now. This is fascinating.
  4. http://c710720.r20.cf2.rackcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/ISO-Shutter-Speeds-Fstops-Copyright-2009-2011-photographyuncapped.gif I live by that chart If you can find a copy of the American Cinematographer Manual, it's even better as it will give you all the calculations and also FPS and shutter angle stuff.
  5. I recently shot under very similar circumstances ... in the forests of the pacific north west. Definitely the reflective nature of the talents clothes to catch whatever lights available is a big help. Also, if there is a small gap in the tree canopy, that light will punch through like a stage spot light and blow out everything, so keep some diffusion on hand to avoid bad hot spots. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ooXY6q7NGVVnQuaz5
  6. Very nice. I still think the BMPCC outguns a lot of it's flashier counterparts. Did you grade it yourself?
  7. I made something thats a cross between tent pegs and the usual T-marker.
  8. well i figured out that it has something to do with integers and thats about it
  9. Well my wife, who is normally very pro film, came out of a 35mm screening of her favourite movie, 'Selena', and said it looked like grainy dog poop. So i guess film is dead now that it looks like grainy dog poop.
  10. I had the same question a few years ago, found this thread below and gained many answers. http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=7980
  11. A fellow Oregonian! Looks great mate. You ever work up in Portland or mostly in Eugene?
  12. I'm still experimenting with the two (meter v false colour) ... checking lighting with the meter before looking at the false color and it's always pretty darn close to my mental image mixed with the results of the meter. The perk of the false colour is that it can highlight something I may have missed in the frame whilst paying too much attention to the subjects/talent. But being that I shoot film quiet often on a hobby level, the meter will always be king.
  13. Pro's don't really seem to rate SmallHD but for $500 I'd get a second hand smallHD DP6 ... HDMI/SD inputs, decent brightness and doesn't rip through batteries too badly, focus assist, false color, preset and custom frame guides, solid build.
  14. That looks super fun. My 10 year old loved the dance scene.
  15. Bit late to the party but if anyones got any tips, let me know. I have a tonne of regular ND's from shooting film and really don't want to invest in a set of IRNDs. Looking into Hot Mirror / IR Cut type filters but all the ones recommended on other sites are circular / screw on types and I need a 4x4. So far I've worked out the Schneider Tru Cut 750 works in the wrong part of the IR band to help the BMPCC, so I guess it's something closer to 680? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
  16. Werner has been beyond helpful to me while i learned to shoot film. What an absolute pillar of quality and workmanship.
  17. Lol ... i just don't think the 'enchanted cottage' is that relevant to 14 year olds. Great little video though. I never knew about the split the three through that prism.
  18. Looks brilliant. I'd love to see some ungraded shots if you have any?
  19. Something with pin registration maybe? I had an SR3 and 2, which both had pins but also have had bolex EBM and H16's which didn't and had comparably stable images.
  20. I was hoping this would take S16 glass so the prices would spike and I could sell my poop to vimeo players.
  21. I meant using the chart to understand the increments of ISO settings as part of using a light meter and filters. It's all quiet a simple relationship once you take a moment to understand how everything links up. Once you get the confidence of just dropping in a filter, then changing your light meter ISO setting to account for that, life is so much easier.
