  1. Jaakko patented his optical printer in 1974 so it’s more like 45 years.
  2. It would be clearer to say pin 1 is negative and pin 4 is positive.
  3. Are you sure you’re not in macro mode?
  4. James, I am currently out of town till May 29th but I have a few Bolex cameras and lenses for sale. I am based in Montreal, Canada.
  5. Yes it’s 32mm. The precise designation that includes the thread pitch is M32x0.5mm.
  6. Your camera and magazine might need to be connected by a ground wire.
  7. Maybe the mount on the lens has a dent or deformity as a result of an impact.
  8. First make sure youre not in macro mode. Check if the lens mounts holding levers are holding the lens in securely without any play. If this doesnt change anything then you should have the collimation checked.
  9. A lot of the small series adapters snap on to the outer diameter of the filter ring and don't use the lens filter threads at all. The part that grabs onto the lens is segmented and has a certain amount of elasticity to attach securely. Maybe that's what you should be looking for instead. Measure the outside diameter of your 5.5mm lens to start.
  10. To solve the problem of soldered AAs not fitting, I had Digikey make me some packs from 4/5AA cells which are about 10mm shorter. Make two packs containing 8 cells in series and join then together. Each cell costs about $5. Fits in the battery casing with room to spare. Another solution is to use AAA cells instead. Todays NiMH AAA cells have a bit more capacity than the AA cells used in the original packs but would still allow you to use the same original charger.
  11. Adapters for Arriflex standard and bayonet were common.
  12. I have a Berthiot 8-40mm in H8RX version, if you are interested.
  13. I had one of the early Zeiss Superspeeds which came out in the early days of the PL mount that was secured by eight screws and I was able to easily switch it to the Arri bayonet mount.
  14. Based on a recent experience, Andries is right. Bad contact in the selector switch. From what I can tell, it is fixed to the circuit board and cannot be disassembled. A little shot of contact cleaner may improve things a bit. This aspect of the camera is not well designed for servicing. The builders could not predict how some materials would perform after 40 years.
  15. I've never heard of a 200 foot magazine for the Arri 16S only 400 foot.
  16. This is from memory only. Cameras with auto-exposure: All Scoopics Some Beaulieu R16 models. Some Arriflex 16SR models with special lenses. Probably the Beaulieu News 16 (not 100% sure). There may be others as well.
  17. Are you posting this because you are looking for one?
  18. You should really do an actual film test first.
  19. There are a number of rollers in the mag that must be turned down to avoid all chances of scratching the film stock. Also two large rollers fit that inside the camera chamber must be turned down also. If you're really serious, I have mags and motors for sale. The mags are not converted now of course but I can do it. Contact me via the personal message feature for more info.
  20. You could convert a non-reflex Bolex to super-16 but there would be no way for you see exactly what you're framing. Focusing would be done either on the ground glass or my measuring the distance to the subject. I wouldn't bother converting a non-reflex camera unless you're making a crash-cam with a fixed wide angle lens. The only positive thing about the non-reflex is that you don't specially designed lenses. Pretty much any lens will work.
  21. To determine if it's worth it, you have to look at the alternatives. The Bolex H16 Reflex is probably the easiest camera to convert to super-16, hence the least expensive option. Bolex lenses and accessories are commonplace. When you say "I'm considering using other lenses with it." what exactly do you mean?
  22. Check the guides on the side of the film corridor. They must be snug against the gate otherwise you will have weave or lose the loop completely.
  23. The original battery is 7.2V (six 1.2V) rechargeable cells.
