Site Sponsor Robert Houllahan Posted March 27, 2015 Site Sponsor Share Posted March 27, 2015 Mobile film processing, really cool. The Processor came from Technicolor NYC if I am correctly informed.

Dirk DeJonghe
Good idea for one big production, what will you do if you have two big productions not in the same location?
Kenny N Suleimanagich
^ I believe they plan on having multiple available.
Brian Drysdale
Not spotting this thread I started another. I read that the mobile 35mm film lab staffed by a mix of former Deluxe, Rank and Technicolor people. Currently there is one unit, but I gather there are plans for more. 20,000 ft per 8 hr shift sounds like it may be intended to service one major production, at most two.. Brian Drysdale
If this is operated like the in house TV station processing labs on a rolling basis, productions to could have the rushes into the editing room in a pretty short time. Juha Mattila
This maked me think of great soviet film director Alexander Medvedkins cinema train. He had whole studio in it from cameras to printing lab. They did go aroud country on rails and make films about people. At the end they screened finished for the same folks that they shoot for the movie. An other great filmmaker Chris Marker did make brilliant film about Medvedkin: http://chrismarker.org/chris-marker/the-last-bolshevik-by-chris-marker/
Rudy Velez Jr
This is like my dream come true! I love it. Juha thanks for that link, I am so intrigued by Medvedkin!
Chris Burke
Did Cousteau have something similar? I know Steve Zissou did. In all seriousness, this is great. A mobile lab coupled with an HD tap goes a long way to mitigating some of the set backs of a photo chemical work flow.
Mark Dunn
The Calypso had a stills darkroom and E6 line, but not a MP processor.

Doug Palmer
I spoke to a retired Deluxe worker who is going to a reunion this weekend, and he thought it was an April Fool's joke :D But maybe he'll find out more there. Yes, great idea to cut out the time disadvantage of chemical film.

Doug Palmer
Does anybody know about a new film lab at Pinewood UK ? I heard that the mobile Alpha Lab has been abandoned (perhaps because we are a small country ?) but apparently there are plans to process Kodak 35mm film at Pinewood. Site Sponsor Robert Houllahan Posted May 9, 2016 Site Sponsor Share Posted May 9, 2016 I thought Alpha grip was building a second Alpha Lab, and that they had "abandoned" the first one in the USA with a full staff..... My info could be wrong.
Kenny N Suleimanagich
How recent is this info? I saw the lab myself when it was in NY. It traveled south for another show.

My info could be wrong also about the UK one. Just something I heard  Either way, it looks like film is alive and well for feature production here. So it wasn't abandoned, it just moved elsewhere. Shame I thought I might have a new des rez! Freya
